Birth Story

Here's a little information about birth photography.

Why do you like birth photography?

I don't like, I LOVE it! I have a special connection because I am a mom and I wish I would have gotten a professional to capture the birth of my daughter. The many different emotions running through anyone in the room and simply the strength and beauty of a woman's body is beyond incredible. Watching these mommas welcome their babies earthside is just breathtaking. I am a very passionate person when it comes to birth and I want these mommas to see their resilience. I love being able to deliver a gallery and reminds them of all the special moments that may have slipped their mind. There is also no exact expectations and I love to be able to just capture the moments as they happen.

How do you handle the stress that comes along with being on call?

This is the hardest part because there is a lot that goes into being prepared and ready to go. I have a beyond supportive family that is willing to work together and wake up at 4 am to be with my child if needed. Another thing is, I can't just leave my camera/gear in my car or carry it around with me everywhere I go. I do pack my own hospital bag that has extra batteries, flashes, lenses, cards, hair ties (for me and mom), a little snack, water, and whatever else that I may need in case I am there for 24hrs. I watch what I drink, AKA no alcohol, during the 3 weeks I am on call. I keep myself ready and on point to ensure the best experience for you and family.

So with that being said, It can be a stressful part of the job but I love the chaos and I am thankful for my supper that makes it a little easier on me.

What if I want to keep my birth images private?

That is absolutely okay! You have complete control over what is shared and what isn't. Whether that is all or none, is okay with me.

What if I have a c-section?

If I am allowed in the operation room than I am good to go! Talk with your medical care provider ahead of time to see if its a possibility. If not, we can plan for me to be there while you get prepped and after the operation. Either way, birth is beautiful no matter how we do it and should be captured!

What if I go into labor early or have the baby faster than you can get here?

THIS IS IMPORTANT. We cannot predict accurately when we go into labor and how long it will last. This is why I will ask for updates ALL THE TIME when getting closer to the due date and why I always ask to be alerted when you start feeling like it's getting close. Sometimes labor can last 24hrs+ or 45 mins. I cannot guarantee that I will be there in time BUT I will drop everything the moment you tell me "It's time!" and I will do whatever is in my power to get there ASAP. But understanding that it is not a guarantee is important. Of course, if this happens, we will already have a plan in place on what to do about the payment and where to go from there.

As a birth photographer, I will capture the special moments, document times and emotions. I will be like a shadow and let mama have space to let her body do what it needs to do.
